Wolves of the beyond by:Kathryn Lasky review by: Sarah Crowley

My book is called Wolves of the Beyond. In this story a wolf pup is born, but he has a distinct and intriguing mark on his paw. There is a wolf called the obea wolf and she is a wolf that takes young wolves to a place to be abandoned and killed. The obea is also a wolf who can not give birth. This is what happens to a young wolf named Faolan who is abandoned on the thin ice of a lake where soon, there will be a brutal snowstorm. A mother bear who had lost her young bear cub to a larger bear. She finds Faolan on the riverside and thinks that he is a gift from the river god. She nurses him and raises him by herself. Faolan discovers that her heart is very loud so he calls her Thunderheart. He soon finds out that he is not a bear, but a wolf. One day when they had been together for about a year, Thunderheart explains to him that in the winter, she hibernates so he needs to go out to hunt if he must. At the beginning of hibernation he leaves to go out to hunt and an earthquake awakens Thunderheart. She leaves the cave to find Faolan but ends up being crushed by boulders and is killed. As soon as Faolan returned he saw that she wasn't there. He remembered that their other den was in the outermost. He traveled there but did not find her, but he did meet savage wolves. He finds an owl named Gwynneth that tells him how to find another pack. Since he had a strange marking on his paw it would be harder to find a pack that would accept him. She also told him that if he returned he would be a gnaw wolf. A gnaw wolf is a wolf that had been abandoned after birth but returns to their pack alive and proves themselves by surviving the cruel hardships. This is a great story for people who like adventure and thrill.
