Lyddie by Katherine Patterson -Review by Hannah F.

Lyddie is one of the best books I’ve ever read!! It’s a historical fiction book by Katherine Patterson. Lyddie Worthen has a tough life. Her parents are gone and her siblings are sent off to live with other families. Lyddie decides to get a job at the Lowell Mills to help to get money. She works 6 days a week from morning to night. Soon the working conditions of the mill are unbearable. They are affecting her and her new friend’s health. So, Lyddie must make a decision to risk her job and tell the mill owners about the conditions, or keep quiet while her friend suffers. Lyddie is a tough girl. She braves through everything that life throws at her and she doesn’t care about her looks or her clothes. She is full of determination and hoping that everything will be alright. I thought this book was powerful and I couldn’t put it down! I loved how Lyddie never gave up even when so much sadness was involved in her life. I especially loved it because the time era is extremely interesting, especially because it happened here in Massachusetts!Lyddie is an amazing book!!
