Ponyboy has always been an outsider. The lower class, or Greasers like him are hunted down by the upper class or Socs. But he's never had a good reason to be violent and wild like the other greasers or even the members of his "gang" Dally, Johnny, Steve, Two-Bit, Derry, and Sodapop. After the death of his parents Derry, Ponyboy's stony older brother, has taken care of him and their fun-loving middle brother Sodapop. Derry never understands Ponyboy. He's always yelling at him and telling him what to do. On the other hand Sodapop knows Ponyboy like the back of his hand.
Through the course of the book Ponyboy witnesses a murder, saves people from a burning building, and meets Cherry, a sophisticated Soc who shows him a different side of her lifestyle. Ponyboy goes through a series of events filled with violence, pain, and the death of two close friends Ponyboy discovers that he is the bigger person. This book is a dramatic, exhilarating book. Filled with fights, danger, and adrenaline this book is sure to please.
